Beverly McCormick, with Awen Wood Designs, has graciously offered to give away a gift certificate for a door harp (over $25). Enter to win the certificate at our Fall Festival this year!
For a little background information, Awen Wood Designs began in Klamath Falls, Oregon in 2012. Before that, Beverly did leather crafting as a Journey Craftsman for over 25 years in Kansas. Awen is a Welsh word for “inspiration.” Her family is from Wales and Scotland. She loves the creating part of this wood craft. Taking a piece of wood and thinking of what it can become, the type of wood, color, grain all goes into this process.
Beverly’s husband comes to craft fairs with her, where people often look at him as if he crafted these wood pieces himself. He shakes his head and tells them “No, It’s all her!”
Her shop is located in her house. She doesn’t have a store as of yet, but by appointment she does allow people to come and see what is currently available. She makes clocks, door harps, rocking horses, carousels, napkin holders, wall plaques, puzzles, signs, & home decor.
Her specialty is door harps which originated in China, and then the Swedish adopted the idea. They would use them as a “welcome” to those who entered a home by their soft charmed sound made from guitar strings, struck by different “hammer” such as beads or wood balls. Each is differently designed and made from different types of woods.
